forgotten packages packed
away down below
i thought these little darlings
died a long, long time ago

patience waits, denial dances
away at my cave’s door
chalky sign says beware
for you know not what’s in store!

out of sight out of mind, “i’m fine!”
i cry and cry and cry and cry
and some more i cry and cry
i just don’t
              know
                    why

quietly clamoring for attention,
unpacked packages percolate
violence penetrates silence and
denial is no longer an aide

these abandoned little darlings,
camouflaged in shadows below,
quiet clamoring turns shrill, sounding
sirens of source-less echoes

shocked into a pop-up game of peek-a-boo
my mind shudders with dread,
drumbeats of scarcity and insufficiency
again beat loudly in my head

the oracles promise the stench
of rescinded love and abandonment
will spill out and evaporate
take my hand friend, today we make a stand

quiet my song of dearth and drought
lean in and trust, for what is amiss
will dissipate in love as
nirvana and samsara share dawn’s kiss

packages now open under light
a new perspective appealing
not all were even mine
other than for healing

with transformed fears, reframed relationships
now see those darlings as god’s sacred gifts
add awareness and touch of intent
to feel the kickstart of
                          my
                              healing
                                        heart
